Sustainable Self-Care Event

The Sustainable Self-Care event featured Penn State Berks local partners Berks Nature and other presenters to educate students about the use of sustainable self-care products, harms of self-care waste and other ways to reduce waste. 10+ educational stations hosted by students, staff, faculty and local organizations were featured in the event on the Perkins Lawn on March 20th of 2023.

America Recycles Day – Fall 2023

The Sustainability Council hosted a student event in the Perkins Lobby at Penn State Berks in celebration of America Recycles Day. On November 15th 0f 2023, students were able to test their knowledge about recyclability and other environmental topics to win prizes and access more educational resources.

MLK Day of Service – Invasive Species Removal with Gring’s Mill

Our MLK Service Day Event of removing invasive species with our community partner, Grings Mill, was a success!

More than 50 volunteers of students from Penn State Berks, members of the Sustainability Council, and other community members cleared out various invasive species for the service event.

Earth Fest 2023

The Earth Day and Campus Garden ceremony was held on April 17th, 2023. It consisted of unveiling the display of a sustainability and wellness mural created by Penn State Berks students, educational resources about compost/food waste reduction, and featured a live demonstration of planting seeds in the planter boxes of the brand-new campus garden.

Earth Fest 2022: Sustainability, Justice, & Ethics

After a 3-year hiatus and despite the cold, windy, & then rainy ending, the Earth Fest today (Monday 4/18) was a success in bringing students, faculty, staff, and community members together to learn, educate/inform, encourage to take action, have fun, and simply be able to hang out and discuss important topics related to sustainability. Visitors received freebies (eco-friendly straws and plantable pencils with seeds) and we had 3 rounds of raffle drawings and gave away more than a dozen prizes thanks to funding available from the Penn State Sustainability Institute.

A huge THANK YOU to all the volunteers, station leaders, M&O, IT, community organizations, and visitors that made today a memorable day.

EarthFest 2019

Crowd at EarthFest 2019The Penn State Berks Sustainability Team hosted EarthFest 2019 on April 22 from 10 am – 1:30 pm on the walkway between the Gaige and Perkins Buildings on campus. More than 20 educational stations were led by faculty, staff, students, and community organizations. The large crowd of visitors collected stamps at each station to be entered in a drawing to win sustainability-related prizes. Eco-friendly freebees were available and over 70 visitors made sustainability pledges.

EarthFest Pledges 2019

Over 70 Sustainability Pledges were made by visitors to EarthFest 2019 at Penn State Berks on April 22, 2019. The event included booths hosted by faculty, staff, students, and community organizations. The beautiful weather resulted in a great turnout and a very successful event.
